Working at TLBC

The Associate Pastor of Student Ministry will lead our church to fulfill our mission of Reach, Teach, and Obey by making student disciples who follow Christ. Important elements of the spiritual formation for our students in grades 7 through 12 will include energetic weekly discipleship groups, creative Student Ministry event planning and execution, Student Ministry Team building, outreach to area students and ministry to families with student age children. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Integrate the disciple-making purpose and objectives of TLBC in all aspects of Student Ministry. Form, develop, and lead a Student Ministry Team of volunteers that is focused on making disciples of students. Work closely with the TLBC Nominating Committee to secure Student Ministry leaders. Responsible for ensuring all Student Ministry Volunteers have been approved following the completion of the required background checks and required abuse prevention training. Also responsible for ensuring that all Student Ministry activities are operated under our abuse prevention guidelines. Plan and execute biblically accurate, culturally relevant, and high-energy student Sunday Morning Disciple Groups as well as weekly evening programs. Create and manage a Student Ministry calendar that has creative events that appeal to a wide variety of students. Submit all required materials for digital promotions—such as graphics, handouts, and event details—in a timely manner to support church communication efforts. Develop and implement a strategy for reaching and assimilating new students and their families. Design, plan, and conduct periodic student/parent meetings to engage and update families of students, whether they attend TLBC or not. Assist in the development of an annual Student Ministries budget and manage its spending. Take ownership of and teach respect for the church facilities that are made available to the Student Ministry, thereby ensuring their cleanliness, upkeep, and maintenance. Work closely with the TLBC maintenance and janitorial staff as necessary. Be an active presence in local high schools, scheduling periodic interaction opportunities with local high schools and middle schools near the church. Specifically, establish a close and ongoing relationship with Princess Anne High School. Facilitate the transition of graduating High School students into our Young Adult Ministry. Function as a member of the pastoral staff performing baptism services, weddings, funerals, etc. as related to students as well as to TLBC overall. Perform other duties as assigned. Necessary Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates gifts and calling to the Student Ministry. Has a passion for making student disciples. Exhibits proven ability/capacity to effectively teach students. Is a self-motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, possessing relational skills with students, parents, and staff. Demonstrates patience and understanding when dealing with confused, grieving, or difficult people. Has a strong desire to be active in community outreach. Has the ability to research the community, utilizing demographics, technology and social media to reach the un-churched students of our community. Can work harmoniously and effectively with the staff and with ministry teams. Carries his/her own weight in terms of staff responsibilities. Possesses excellent leadership, administrative, and organizational skills. Takes ownership of the Student Ministry leadership role. Can act with minimal supervision in all areas concerning Student Ministry and can be trusted to follow through with commitments made. Demonstrates the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information to congregants and visitors. Models a Christ-like lifestyle and a passion to reach the lost for Jesus Christ. Has a clear testimony as well as a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Required Education/Experience: This ministry position requires seminary training and/or a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies, Student Ministry or a related field. Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, may be substituted. This position requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in a Student Ministry environment. Appointment: This position is a Full-time, Exempt Ministerial Position that will be filled in consultation with the Personnel Committee who will recommend the candidate for approval by the church. NextGen Coordinator of Kids Ministry and Music

Definition & Summary of Position: The NextGen Coordinator of Kids Ministry & Music provides support, leadership, development, and direction for the Kids Ministry & Music at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church for birth through 6th grade. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the NextGen Coordinator of Kids Ministry & Music include:  Provide support, leadership, direction, training, and oversight for all Kids Ministry volunteers in ages birth through 6th grade.  Provide leadership and oversight for all Kids Ministries (birth through 6th grade) including Sunday School, Kids Choirs, Vacation Bible School, Wednesday and other weekday ministries, Mission education, special events, camps, etc.  Provide Staff support for Music and Me Ministry Preschool Outreach.  Work with staff to review, purchase, and oversee all curriculum for Kids Ministries (birth through 6th grade).  Recruit, train, pray for, and involve new Kids Ministry volunteers (birth through 6th grade).  Create and effectively manage Kids Ministry budget with direction from the Executive Pastor and/or Finance Committee.  Develop and maintain safe, clean, attractive childhood learning environments.  Communicate consistently with parents of birth through 6th grade as well as provide tools they need for spiritual leadership.  Encourage and equip parents to develop a biblical worldview in their Kids and growing family spiritual health.  Oversee Kids Ministry section of the church website.  Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences as needed.  Work closely with the Youth Minister to assure smooth transition of students to youth ministry.  Ensure all volunteers in Kids Ministry areas have received background check and training as related to Child Protection Policy for Kids Ministry.  Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:  Have 3-5 years’ experience in Kid’s Ministries and a passion for ministry.  Have a personal, daily relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by action, attitude, and behavior and willing to become a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church.  Have an educational background in Christian Ministries, Biblical Studies, or a related field (preferred).  Be reliable, take initiative, self-motivated. Use appropriate judgment in the areas of discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality. Appointment: Approved by Church Reports to: Executive Pastor of Ministries Employee Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly (25 hours per week), Supporting Staff Work Hours:  Limited to 25 hours per week unless pre-approved. No overtime unless pre-approved.  Sundays and Wednesdays are required workdays. One Sunday per quarter may be taken off with prior approval.  Typical weekly schedule will be negotiated prior to start date.
