Women’s ministries at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church offers opportunities for individuals to join with others in participating in a wide array of ministry-oriented activities, all geared toward the common goal of equipping women toward maturity in Christ through fellowship with one another, serving in the church, sharing Jesus with others and being involved in missions both locally and around the world. These opportunities encompass a broad age-group continuum, ranging from first-grade girls to senior adult women. Below is a listing of key women’s ministry groups in the church, complete with brief information about each one.


Women’s Missionary Union (WMU)

WMU is the church’s overarching mission organization for women.  Its primary purpose is to inform and inspire Christian believers to influence their world for Christ, to help people of all ages to learn about and pray for missions, and to provide opportunities for people, through serving and giving, to support Virginia, North American and International missions.  Among other things, the WMU is responsible for overseeing two vital mission organizations in the church: Women on Mission (WoM) and Girls in Action (GAs)

Women on Missions (WoM)

Purpose: To provide mission learning and involvement for women in coordination and cooperation with the church and local association (BNoC), Virginia, North American and International missions.
Meetings:  Monthly, 2nd Tuesday, 7:00-8:30 PM
Examples of Projects/Activities:  Vacation Bible School for Seniors, Christmas “Shoebox Ministry” for impoverished children, annual Christmas Store Dinner for receiving toys donated to needy families, Christian Authors Festival, Women’s Retreat

Girl’s in Action (GA’s)

Purpose: To help girls in grades 1 through 6 learn about, pray for, give to and do missions work.  Through GAs girls learn what it means to live a missional lifestyle while they participate in Bible study, mission projects and activities that are engaging, fun and memorable.
Meetings:  Every Wednesday (September-June), 6:45-7:30 PM
Examples of Projects/Activities: Brunswick Stew and “Souper Sunday” fund raisers for mission projects, participation in Homeless Week and the annual Christmas Store event, GA camp

Women In God’s Service (WINGS)

WINGS is an active Christian women’s group with the overall goal of pointing women of all ages toward learning and applying key spiritual principles in their daily lives, all in context of growing relationships with God and with one another.
Purpose: To provide Christ-centered events and activities for women that emphasize spiritual growth, fellowship and outreach.
Meetings:  Monthly, 1st Thursday, 6:00 PM
Examples of Projects/Activities:  Quarterly Saturday fellowship events featuring various Christian speakers, participation in craft activities and involvement in various service projects over the course of the year.

Women In the Word

“Women in the Word”is a Bible study group that will systematically explore God’s actions as recorded in His Word to bring about salvation through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Purpose: To more deeply understand God’s plan of salvation, as described and point to in his Word.
Meetings:  Weekly on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.

Baby Boutique – BNoC managed

Started several years ago by the Bridge Network of Churches (BNoC), the Baby Boutique serves families in need of basic supplies for their little ones.  Thalia Lynn participates by helping to collect needed items and by providing volunteers when needed.
Purpose:  To provide needy families with baby clothes and other baby-related items, from newborn to age 2 toddlers.
Meetings:  The Baby Boutique ministry does not have regular meetings.  The boutique is open on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM to distribute baby items to families that have made a prior appointment.
Examples of Projects/Activities:  Collecting baby boutique donations, helping to manage the Baby Boutique room and assisting needy families at scheduled times.

Yarning for Him – “While this was made for you, we prayed”

Yarning for Him is a women’s service-oriented group focusing on making lap blankets and hats for needy families and lifting these families up in prayer.
Purpose:  To meet together for the purpose of knitting or crocheting lap blankets and hats as well as praying for the families to whom they are sent.
Meetings:  Yarning for Him meets on an “as needed” basis to identify blanket/hat recipients, pray and coordinate delivery times of the blankets.
Examples of Projects/Activities:  Making blankets and hats, praying over them and assisting with their delivery.

Ruth Ministry

Ruth Ministry is a visitation ministry to women who are home/facility bound. (For where you go, I will go . . ., Ruth 1:16)


Purpose:  To provide regular contact/connection with women who are home/facility bound due to permanent or temporary physical limitations, helping them to experience Christlike love and care.  

Meetings:  There are no meetings.  Regular visitations are determined by one’s availability.

Projects/Activities:  Weekly or monthly contact with assigned individual(s) to call, email, visit and bring periodic “love offerings” such as a meal, a card, etc.

Prayer Warrior Network/Prayer Partners

The Women’s Prayer Warrior Network is a group dedicated to praying for others in the context of specific prayer requests that have been shared with these faithful women.
Purpose:  To provide a network of caring and faithful women who lift up in prayer those who have provided prayer requests through the church’s Prayer Warrior Network (PWN@mytowncenterchurch.com).
Meetings:  There are no meetings.  Participants will need to set aside time each day to pray for those submitting emailed prayer requests on the network.

Shepherd Ministry

The Women’s Shepherd Ministry assists women who are new to the church in becoming acclimated to various groups, programs, and ministry opportunities for women at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church.
Purpose:  To connect with women who have recently become involved with the church, helping them, as needed, to become engaged in a Bible study group, discipleship class and/or church ministry, with an emphasis on making them aware of women’s ministry opportunities.
Meetings:  Individualized meetings are determined by the ministry shepherd and the new individual.

Besides ministries specific to women only, there are many other church programs and ministry opportunities in which both men and women are encouraged to participate, plus separate programs for children and youth.  Most of these are administered by or through one or more of the staff ministers who serve here at Thalia Lynn.  Listed below are several of these programs, a brief description of each, the ministry area under which each falls and contact information

Sunday Morning Bible Study Groups for Adults

These groups meet each Sunday between the two worship services and include adults from all walks of life.  (Education Ministry)

Adult Discipleship Groups and One-on-One Discipleship Mentoring

Starting Point for New or Prospective Church Members

This is a fun, music-oriented experience for small children (birth-age 4) that meets on Wednesday mornings. (Kid’s Ministry)
